Vancouver Working Peers June 10 Meeting Follow Up
from Clark County Volunteer Lawyers Program
1104 Main Street Ste. 1 Plaza Level Vancouver, WA

Agenda  |  19 Attending

It was a great meeting where 19 of us showed up to learn more about the Clark County Volunteer Lawyers Program.  Charlotte Dudley, Program Coordinator enjoyed our energy and enthusiasm to connect people in our communities and work places with services like theirs, and we all enjoyed her graciousness and welcoming us with open arms.

The Clark County Volunteer Lawyers Program has approximately 100 volunteer attorneys providing free civil to low income families and individuals in Clark County.  They have so many areas they can provide advice on!  Chapter 7 bankruptcy, divorce, parenting plans, domestic violence, adoptions or custody, and General Civil Law situations, like contracts, avoiding bankruptcy or discrimination. They also help with the Homeless Court and Housing Justice Project that handles evictions, landlord/tenant disputes or any issue that prevents a client from being safely and fairly housed. Charlotte shared that it is wise to call first (and be patient and persistent) to set up an appointment and go thru their quick assessment to be sure your situation fits their program. But even if it doesn't fit, they can point you in a good direction.

More details about CCVLP programs and some numbers you call can be found on these downloadable pdfs: Overview of Programs and Who to Call Resources.

The Working Peers also had an opportunity to weigh in on community tools being designed! Laura Ellsworth from the Council for the Homeless joined us briefly to share a draft version of their new Business Resource Guide focusing on interacting with persons experiencing homelessness in our community.  She asked us to review it and please follow up with any additions or concerns we had with the project.  It was an awesome example of how local agencies can use Working Peers expertise and real life experiences to help shape a tool to be used in our communities and workplaces.  We were honored to be a part of the process.  If anyone has input they wanted to share with Laura on what they saw at the meeting, please email Laura directly at This email address is being protected from spambots. We also got to learn about the SW CHAPS Network plans for an upcoming CHW Career Fair-Expo this fall.  We invite all CHWs and Peers to join us in shaping this event into something that can really highlight our value to the workforce.
